Bengaluru Fake Police Robbery: ₹20 Lakh Cash and ½ KG Gold Looted at Gunpoint

The shocking Bengaluru fake police robbery has raised serious safety concerns after two criminals posing as police officers stormed a home in Bengaluru, threatened a family at gunpoint, and looted ₹20 lakh in cash along with half a kilogram of gold jewellery before escaping with the CCTV DVR.

In a brazen daylight robbery that has rocked Bengaluru, **two men posing as police officers allegedly stormed a family home, threatened the occupants at knifepoint and fled with ₹20 lakh in cash, around **500 grams (½ kg) of gold jewellery, the couple’s mobile phones and the CCTV DVR meant to record evidence.

 What Happened

On Monday afternoon, in the Byadarahalli area of northwest Bengaluru, a gang of impostors dressed in police khaki closely resembling real uniforms knocked on the door of realtor Hombalegowda’s residence in the BEL Layout locality. One of the suspects even carried a diary and claimed to be from the Yelahanka Police Station to appear authentic.

Once inside, the men allegedly pulled out a knife and a gun, forced the 53-year-old homeowner and his wife Mangalamma into submission, taped their mouths and tied their hands to prevent them from raising an alarm.

 The Loot

The robbers then ransacked the house, taking:

  • ₹20 lakh in cash

  • Approximately 500 g (½ kg) of gold jewellery

  • The couple’s mobile phones

  • The CCTV DVR recording system

Stealing the CCTV DVR was likely a deliberate attempt to erase footage and avoid identification.

Despite the terrifying ordeal, the couple and their granddaughter—who was inside at the time—escaped physical injury.

 How They Did It

According to police accounts, the impostors used convincing props such as police uniforms, a diary and what looked like official gear to gain trust and entry. Once inside, they dropped the pretense and carried out the violent robbery with threats of weapons.

Police have registered a case at the Byadarahalli Police Station and are actively investigating the crime. Teams have been deployed to analyse CCTV footage from neighbouring areas to trace and catch the suspects.

Police Investigation Underway

Local police have launched an intensive investigation into the case. Authorities are scanning nearby surveillance footage from neighboring houses and streets to track the suspects’ movements.

Investigators suspect the criminals may have had prior information about the valuables stored in the house. The possibility of insider involvement or reconnaissance before the robbery is also being examined.

Rising Concern Over Impersonation Crimes

This incident highlights a disturbing trend of criminals impersonating law enforcement officers to gain easy access to homes. Experts advise residents to:

  • Always verify police identity cards carefully

  • Call the nearest police station to confirm any unexpected visit

  • Install cloud-based CCTV systems to prevent data loss

  • Avoid disclosing financial details to outsiders

Conclusion

The daring robbery in Bengaluru has sparked fear among residents and raised serious questions about safety and verification protocols. As police intensify their hunt for the suspects, the case serves as a stark reminder for citizens to remain vigilant and cautious—even when someone claims to represent authority.
