Around 1:20 p.m. local time, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) received reports of an active shooter at Tumbler Ridge Secondary School, a small public school serving roughly 165–175 students in Grades 7–12.

Police issued a public emergency alert telling residents to shelter in place while they responded.

  • Officers found multiple victims inside the school, with six people confirmed dead on site.

  • One victim died while being transported to hospital.

  • Two more bodies were discovered at a nearby residence, believed to be connected to the incident.
