The wood panel and interior infrastructure landscape in India is entering an intensive expansion phase driven by escalating real estate and commercial development. Capitalizing on this market momentum, Kolkata-based industry leader Century Plyboards (India) Limited has formalized its entry into Odisha's rapidly expanding industrial ecosystem.
The massive capital injection reinforces the state's growing appeal as a premium destination for core manufacturing investments.
Project Architecture: Phased Capacity and Strategic Outlays
The Century Plyboards Odisha investment is structured across carefully managed development phases designed to maximize production efficiency.
Plywood Manufacturing Line (₹370 Crore Total): This segment will add a total capacity of 120,000 Cubic Meters (CBM) per year.
It will be executed in two identical halves. Phase 1 requires an investment of ₹230 crore and is slated for completion by Q1 of FY 2029-30. Phase 2 will bring in an additional ₹140 crore, aiming to go live by Q1 of FY 2030-31. Particle Board Manufacturing Line (₹500 Crore Total): A single-phase standalone mega unit aimed at creating a massive 240,000 CBM annual capacity.
This component is scheduled to be completed by Q1 of FY 2031-32. The company noted that this line may be partially adapted to Medium Density Fibre Board (MDF) manufacturing depending on evolving market dynamics.
The Koraput Plant: Generating Rural Employment
A key structural feature of this venture is its geographic positioning. The Century Plyboards Koraput plant is situated within a region known for its supportive natural canopy and vital bamboo and timber plantations.
From an employment generation perspective, the plant represents a major win for the state administration's localized development goals. The state's Single Window Clearance Authority highlighted that Century Ply's facility will create approximately 1,000 direct and indirect jobs within Koraput.
Financial Foundations: Record Earnings Fuel Growth
The aggressive ₹870 crore capital deployment is backed by exceptional fiscal resilience. Alongside the project announcement, the company published its final audited results for the fiscal year ended March 31, 2026, showcasing record-breaking corporate performance.
On a consolidated basis, Century Plyboards reported an impressive total income of ₹5,397.18 crore for FY26, marking a powerful 19.2 percent year-on-year jump.
The company's core operations remain highly profitable, with annual EBITDA (excluding foreign exchange variables) climbing 39.8 percent to ₹701.69 crore.
Elevating the Local Economy
As corporate setups transition from planning boards to ground construction teams in Koraput, the wood panel giant is laying down deep roots for a long-term manufacturing presence in Odisha.
