Century Plyboards Announces ₹870 Crore Mega Investment in Odisha Plant

The wood panel and interior infrastructure landscape in India is entering an intensive expansion phase driven by escalating real estate and commercial development. Capitalizing on this market momentum, Kolkata-based industry leader Century Plyboards (India) Limited has formalized its entry into Odisha's rapidly expanding industrial ecosystem. Following high-level discussions with state administrative leaders, the company's Board of Directors officially approved an entry proposal during their seasonal meeting.

The massive capital injection reinforces the state's growing appeal as a premium destination for core manufacturing investments. By choosing a localized territory for its next massive factory, the brand aims to cut logistical overheads, secure direct access to crucial forest raw materials, and optimize its supply chains to serve consumer bases throughout Eastern and Central India more effectively.

Project Architecture: Phased Capacity and Strategic Outlays

The Century Plyboards Odisha investment is structured across carefully managed development phases designed to maximize production efficiency. The overall investment allocation of approximately ₹870.82 crore is divided between distinct product manufacturing lines:

  • Plywood Manufacturing Line (₹370 Crore Total): This segment will add a total capacity of 120,000 Cubic Meters (CBM) per year. It will be executed in two identical halves. Phase 1 requires an investment of ₹230 crore and is slated for completion by Q1 of FY 2029-30. Phase 2 will bring in an additional ₹140 crore, aiming to go live by Q1 of FY 2030-31.

  • Particle Board Manufacturing Line (₹500 Crore Total): A single-phase standalone mega unit aimed at creating a massive 240,000 CBM annual capacity. This component is scheduled to be completed by Q1 of FY 2031-32. The company noted that this line may be partially adapted to Medium Density Fibre Board (MDF) manufacturing depending on evolving market dynamics.

The Koraput Plant: Generating Rural Employment

A key structural feature of this venture is its geographic positioning. The Century Plyboards Koraput plant is situated within a region known for its supportive natural canopy and vital bamboo and timber plantations. The regional location allows the company to minimize raw material haulage costs while working closely with local agro-forestry communities.

From an employment generation perspective, the plant represents a major win for the state administration's localized development goals. The state's Single Window Clearance Authority highlighted that Century Ply's facility will create approximately 1,000 direct and indirect jobs within Koraput. This aligns directly with Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi's policy directives focused on balancing heavy metal industrialization with sustainable, employment-linked consumer goods manufacturing in tribal-dominated districts.

Financial Foundations: Record Earnings Fuel Growth

The aggressive ₹870 crore capital deployment is backed by exceptional fiscal resilience. Alongside the project announcement, the company published its final audited results for the fiscal year ended March 31, 2026, showcasing record-breaking corporate performance.

On a consolidated basis, Century Plyboards reported an impressive total income of ₹5,397.18 crore for FY26, marking a powerful 19.2 percent year-on-year jump. Profit After Tax (PAT) for the full year surged by an extraordinary 44.2 percent to hit ₹268.33 crore, up from ₹186 crore in the preceding fiscal cycle.

The company's core operations remain highly profitable, with annual EBITDA (excluding foreign exchange variables) climbing 39.8 percent to ₹701.69 crore. The flagship Plywood division continued to be the main driver of revenue, contributing ₹2,915.22 crore to the annual numbers, while the Particle Board and premium MDF lines registered rapid growth metrics of 38.2 percent and 25.6 percent respectively. This exceptional cash flow generation ensures that the upcoming debt-and-equity funding structure for the Odisha facility rests on a highly stable balance sheet.

Elevating the Local Economy

As corporate setups transition from planning boards to ground construction teams in Koraput, the wood panel giant is laying down deep roots for a long-term manufacturing presence in Odisha. For local communities, the plant is set to bring infrastructure improvements, modern skill development initiatives, and ancillary business opportunities in logistics and transport services. By combining structural raw material advantages with top-tier financial backing, Century Plyboards is well-positioned to achieve its next phase of market expansion while actively supporting Odisha's goal of becoming an industrial powerhouse in Eastern India.
