Hyderabad's ongoing battle against food adulteration gained momentum this week after food safety authorities uncovered serious violations during inspections conducted across multiple locations in the city. The coordinated operation by the Hyderabad Food Adulteration Surveillance Team (H-FAST) and Food Safety Department exposed unsafe food handling practices, misbranding, and the use of prohibited ingredients that could pose significant health risks to consumers.

Unlicensed Charminar Food Godown Busted

On June 19, 2026, H-FAST officials, along with Food Safety authorities, raided M/s Al Akbar Fast Food & Godown located in New Laad Bazar, Panch Mohalla, Charminar, under the Hussainialam police station limits.

During the inspection, officials discovered approximately 110 kilograms of prepared fried chicken that had allegedly been cooked using repeatedly reused stale oil. Authorities also seized around 90 liters of loose cooking oil stored in six containers of 15 liters each.

The raid further revealed the presence of banned and prohibited artificial food colors, including MSK Lion Green and Raspberry Red, substances that are not permitted for use in food preparation under food safety regulations.

Officials described the premises as highly unhygienic, citing poor storage conditions, lack of pest control measures, inadequate sanitation standards, and the absence of a valid FSSAI license. Two operators associated with the facility were detained for further investigation.

Massive Paneer Seizure Across Hyderabad

Earlier, on June 17, 2026, H-FAST and task force teams conducted inspections at 45 food outlets and eight manufacturing units across Hyderabad.

The operation resulted in the seizure of 825 kilograms of suspected adulterated and misbranded paneer. According to officials, some products were allegedly being sold as paneer despite being manufactured using cheese analogue materials prepared from synthetic milk, starch, vegetable fats, and other low-quality substitutes.

Investigators also found several cases of improper labeling, missing food safety certifications, unhygienic storage practices, and misleading product descriptions that could deceive consumers regarding the actual composition of the products being sold.

Authorities noted that some of the questionable products had reportedly been sourced from neighboring states before entering local markets.

Serious Health Risks Identified

Food safety officials warned that consumption of adulterated food products can lead to severe health consequences. Products prepared using stale oil may contain harmful compounds linked to digestive disorders and long-term health complications.

Similarly, adulterated paneer made with synthetic ingredients and unauthorized additives may increase the risk of food poisoning, allergic reactions, liver-related complications, and other health issues, particularly among children and individuals with weakened immune systems.

Experts emphasize that consumers often struggle to distinguish genuine dairy products from adulterated alternatives, making strict enforcement and regular inspections essential.

Zero-Tolerance Policy Continues

Authorities have announced that Hyderabad's anti-adulteration drive will continue with more inspections and enforcement actions in the coming weeks. Officials reiterated their commitment to maintaining food safety standards and protecting public health.

Consumers have been advised to verify FSSAI licenses, check QR codes where available, examine product labeling carefully, and report suspicious food products to relevant authorities.

Food safety teams have also urged restaurants, manufacturers, and distributors to comply with regulations, warning that violations will attract strict legal action.

The latest seizures highlight the increasing efforts by Hyderabad authorities to tackle food adulteration and improve food quality standards across the city. As enforcement agencies expand surveillance and inspection activities, consumers are being encouraged to remain vigilant and make informed purchasing decisions.
