Indore MBA Student Murder: Accused Smirks, Shows No Remorse, Says ‘What Happened, Happened…!

On February 10, 2026, a young woman — a 24‑year‑old MBA student studying in Indore — left her home telling her family she was going to a birthday party with her classmate, Piyush Dhamnotiya. She said she would return by night but was never seen alive again.

The Disappearance

After she didn’t return, her worried family tried calling her repeatedly. At around 11 pm that night, a message was sent from her phone to her family stating:

“Tell Papa she won’t be returning home.”

Soon after, her phone was switched off, and it remained unreachable.

Discovery of the Body — February 13, 2026

Three days after she went missing, neighbours in the Dwarkapuri area of Indore alerted police to a foul stench coming from a locked rented room. When officers forced entry, they found a horrifying scene: the young woman’s naked body lying on a bed, her hands and feet bound, her face gagged — and the room in disarray.

What Police Believe Happened

According to police investigations:

  • Earlier that day (Feb 10), the couple had met in the rented room to resolve relationship issues.

  • A heated argument erupted, reportedly over marriage prospects and suspicion about her talking with other men.

  • Dhamnotiya allegedly demanded sex; when she refused, an assault began.

  • He tied her hands and feet with rope found in the room, blindfolded her, and gagged her with cloth.

  • He sat on her chest, choking her until she lost consciousness and was unable to breathe.

  • Believing she was still alive or for reasons unclear, he stabbed her in the chest with such force that the knife blade broke.

This brutal killing took place the same afternoon the student disappeared.

Alleged Actions After the Killing

What followed has shocked not just the city of Indore but the entire country:

  • After the murder, Dhamnotiya is said to have left the room, bought beer, and returned to sit and drink beside her lifeless body.

  • Police allege he remained in the flat, intoxicated, and later may have sexually assaulted her corpse — an allegation investigators continue examining.

  • He then fled the city, crossing into Maharashtra by train, carrying her phone, which he later destroyed while travelling.

Bizarre Behaviour on the Run

In Maharashtra, police found signs that Dhamnotiya’s behaviour was highly unusual:

  • He is said to have searched for occult and spiritual practices online — including ways to summon or communicate with spirits.

  • Reports suggest he lit incense sticks in a secluded area near Panvel and attempted what officers described as tantric or black‑magic rituals to contact the woman’s spirit.

These details have not only intensified public shock but also raised questions about his mental state.

Arrest and Interrogation

On February 14, 2026, Dhamnotiya was arrested in Andheri, Mumbai with help from local police and technical tracking. He was brought back to Indore and placed in police remand.

During a crime‑scene reconstruction, investigators noted that he showed little remorse and even dismissed questions from the media about why he did it. When asked to explain his actions, he reportedly said,

“What had to happen has happened… what will you gain by knowing?”
and smirked in response to reporters.

Motive Under Investigation

Police believe the motive may stem from longstanding relationship tensions:

  • Both were MBA students and reportedly in a relationship for about a year.

  • Disagreements over marriage and “possessiveness” appear to have triggered repeated arguments.

  • Investigators also found evidence that from her phone he had uploaded obscene photos and videos to groups of her friends and contacts to defame her after the murder.

The investigation is ongoing, including psychological evaluation of the accused and forensic analyses of digital evidence.

Conclusion

The tragic murder of the young MBA student in Indore is a chilling reminder of the extreme consequences of unchecked anger, possessiveness, and violence. Beyond the horrific act itself, the alleged post-murder behavior and lack of remorse shown by the accused highlight deep societal and psychological issues that need urgent attention. This case underscores the importance of awareness, mental health support, and robust legal measures to protect women and ensure that perpetrators of such crimes are brought to justice swiftly.
