Odisha is gearing up for a grand 14-day celebration as the state government officially announced the schedule for Odia Pakhya 2026. Running from April 1 to April 14, this fortnight-long festival is not just a series of events but a state-wide movement to promote and preserve the rich tapestry of Odia language, literature, and culture. Building on the success of its inaugural edition in 2025, this year’s celebrations are set to be more inclusive, reaching from the state capital to the smallest blocks and villages.
A Fortnight of Cultural Renaissance
The celebrations kick off on April 1, which marks Utkala Dibasa (Odisha Day), the anniversary of the formation of Odisha as a separate province on a linguistic basis. The festival will culminate on April 14, coinciding with Maha Bishuba Sankranti or the Odia New Year. Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has called upon the public to treat this festival as a campaign to awaken pride in the Odia identity.
Under the guidance of the Odia Language, Literature, and Culture Department, multiple government bodies have collaborated to ensure every day of the "Pakhya" (fortnight) highlights a specific facet of the state's legacy.

To ensure the youth and the general public remain engaged, the government has designed a thematic calendar:

Digital Engagement and Public Participation
Understanding the power of the "Amrut Generation," the government has launched a dedicated website and mobile app for Odia Pakhya 2026. Citizens are encouraged to participate in online quiz competitions, upload selfies in traditional attire, and share reels showcasing local folk arts. Participants can also download digital certificates to commemorate their involvement in this "cultural renaissance."
Beyond the borders of the state, special efforts are being made to involve non-resident Odias (NROs) across the globe, ensuring the message of Odia pride resonates internationally.
The Vision Behind the Celebration
The primary objective of Odia Pakhya is to bridge the gap between the modern generation and their ancestral roots. By integrating language and tradition into everyday life—whether through signboards, clothing, or food—the state aims to ensure that the Odia legacy remains vibrant and evolving.
