Odisha Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati formally inaugurated a state-of-the-art 485 kilowatt-peak (kWp) rooftop solar photovoltaic power plant spread across the expansive Lok Bhavan campus in Bhubaneswar. The infrastructure overhaul underscores the state administration's firm alignment with national targets focused on clean energy and building a self-reliant India.

The high-profile project, executed seamlessly by Public Sector Undertaking (PSU) giant NBCC (India) Limited, covers approximately 39,000 square feet of institutional rooftop area. With this newly commissioned capacity up and running, the total distributed solar infrastructure at the Lok Bhavan complex has successfully scaled to a commanding 635 kW, transforming the Governor's official base into a premier national model for eco-friendly public infrastructure.

The technical execution of the Odisha Governor Inaugurates event highlights a meticulous, highly distributed approach to architectural optimization. Rather than concentrating solar arrays in a single zone, engineering teams utilized existing structural spaces across the historic premises to maximize sunlight absorption.

The centerpiece of the green installation is stationed at the Abhishek Banquet Hall, which carries the single highest capacity configuration of 191 kWp. The remaining arrays have been strategically distributed across essential residential, security, and administrative wings to form a highly resilient microgrid environment.

The unified rooftop layout is projected to harness substantial clean electricity, generating roughly 60,000 units of carbon-free power monthly. This allows the campus to dramatically cut down on conventional grid power consumption while heavily slashing institutional expenditure.

Countering Global Pressures with Domestic Solar Adoption

The structural expansion at Lok Bhavan arrives at a critical juncture for domestic resource management. Addressing an elite gathering of administrators and engineering teams—including NBCC Chairman-cum-Managing Director Dr. K.P. Mahadevaswamy—Governor Kambhampati contextualized the transition within wider global energy patterns and supply-chain pressures.

The Governor pointed out that ongoing conflicts in West Asia and volatile global crude oil margins emphasize why India must actively accelerate its indigenous renewable asset building.

The EV-Solar Synergy: The newly generated solar energy will directly fuel the campus's charging networks. This supports Lok Bhavan's recent structural milestone of transitioning its entire official motorcade over to "Made-in-India" electric vehicles, reducing conventional fuel consumption across the administrative board.

Governor Kambhampati further linked the institutional success to widespread grassroot plans, advising individual households to actively benefit from the central PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana alongside corresponding subsidy components offered by the Government of Odisha.

The execution by NBCC establishes a strict blueprint for how heritage and administrative complexes across India can navigate modern green retrofitting.
