Punjab on High Alert: Twin Blasts Target Security Headquarters in Amritsar and Jalandhar

Punjab has been placed on high alert following two separate explosions targeting high-security installations late Tuesday night, May 5, 2026. Within just three hours, blast-like incidents were reported near the Border Security Force (BSF) Punjab Frontier Headquarters in Jalandhar and an Army cantonment area in Amritsar, sparking a massive multi-agency probe.

The Incident Near Amritsar Army Cantonment

Around 10:50 PM on Tuesday night, a loud explosion-like sound was reported near the boundary wall of the Khasa camp along Khasa Road, which houses an Army cantonment.

  • Impact: The force of the incident damaged a tin sheet installed on the perimeter wall, which is typically used to block visibility from the outside.

  • Casualties: Fortunately, no injuries or fatalities were reported in this specific incident.

  • Response: Security agencies, including forensic specialists, the Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS), and quick response teams, immediately cordoned off the area to collect evidence.

The Jalandhar BSF HQ Explosion

Just hours earlier, at approximately 8:00 PM, a similar incident occurred outside the BSF Punjab Frontier Headquarters at BSF Chowk in Jalandhar.

  • What Happened: An explosion involving a delivery scooter parked on the roadside scattered mangled remains across the street.

  • Claims of Responsibility: The Khalistan Liberation Army (KLA) took responsibility for this blast via a social media post, claiming it was "revenge" for a recent encounter near the Indo-Pak border.

Security Response & Ongoing Investigation

The Punjab Police, in coordination with central intelligence agencies and the National Investigation Agency (NIA), has launched a state-wide investigation.

  • Cross-Border Links: Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav stated that initial findings point toward Pakistani intelligence agencies (ISI). He noted that the timing might be linked to the anniversary of "Operation Sindoor" to cause regional disruption.

  • Use of IEDs: Preliminary assessments suggest that Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) may have been used at both locations.

  • Current Restrictions: Public movement has been restricted in several sensitive areas of Amritsar as teams conduct surveillance and analyze technical intelligence, including active mobile data from the vicinity.
