PURI: The world-famous Lord Jagannath Rath Yatra 2026 has commenced in the holy town of Puri, drawing millions of eager devotees from across the globe into a wave of spiritual ecstasy. As the majestic wooden chariots of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, and Devi Subhadra prepare to traverse the historic Grand Road (Bada Danda), the newly formed state administration has turned the coastal town into an impenetrable security fortress.
The nerve center of this operation is the state-of-the-art Integrated Command and Control Centre, where the Chief Minister is personally observing the massive public gathering through a dedicated grid of 473 live CCTV feeds. This extensive digital canopy covers every vulnerable point of the city, allowing top administrative and police officials to dynamically manage real-time logistical movements.
A Zero-Tolerance Security Mandate
Following comprehensive state-level reviews, the Odisha government has adopted a strict "zero-tolerance" policy regarding crowd mismanagement and structural gaps.
A formidable force of approximately 12,000 police personnel, alongside units from the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF), has been strategically positioned along key transit routes. To prevent immediate structural choke points around the divine chariots, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has mandated strict restrictions on 'inner cordon' passes.
Advanced Surveillance Infrastructure
The tech-driven strategy relies heavily on instant data updates and continuous public broadcast networks. Beyond the 473 high-resolution CCTV cameras tracking the crowds, drone operations are feeding aerial analysis directly into the central operations room to check for potential density anomalies.
To aid the millions of pilgrims moving through the summer heat, the administration has installed 65 large LED display screens across key public zones.
Public Welfare and Medical Readiness
Recognizing the massive physical strain placed on older devotees and families, the administration has integrated massive public utility facilities directly into the grand route. Nearly 30 dedicated emergency evacuation corridors have been established and kept clear of all vendor stalls or resting crowds.
Eight fully staffed temporary hospitals have been built along Bada Danda, supplemented by rapid ambulance teams.
A Spiritual Triumph Guided by Systemic Precision
As the rhythmic clanging of cymbals, the blowing of conch shells, and the historic sounds of the Hari Bol chants reverberate through the grand skies of Puri, the flawless synchronization between the ancient ritual schedules and modern digital administration is evident.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi reminded senior officers that the eyes of the entire world remain fixed upon the sacred city during this global cultural event.
