Puri Gears Up for Snana Yatra as Sudarsan Pattnaik Unveils Stunning Sand Art

The holy city of Puri is witnessing an atmosphere of devotion and celebration as preparations for the annual Snana Yatra gather momentum. On the occasion of Snana Purnima, renowned sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik created a breathtaking sand sculpture on Puri Beach, paying tribute to Lord Jagannath and welcoming devotees from across the country.

The elaborate artwork quickly became a major attraction, drawing visitors and pilgrims who gathered to admire the intricate sculpture ahead of one of the most significant rituals associated with the Jagannath Temple.

Snana Yatra, also known as the ceremonial bathing festival of Lord Jagannath, is observed on the full moon day of the Hindu month of Jyestha. During the sacred ritual, the deities of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, Goddess Subhadra, and Sudarshan are brought to the Snana Mandap, where they are bathed with 108 pots of sanctified water in the presence of thousands of devotees.

To ensure the smooth conduct of the festival, authorities have implemented extensive security arrangements throughout Puri. A single-queue system has been introduced for devotees entering the Jagannath Temple to help regulate the large crowds expected during the celebrations. Police personnel have been deployed at key locations, while surveillance through CCTV cameras and crowd management measures have been strengthened to maintain order and ensure public safety.

Officials have also coordinated emergency medical services, traffic management, and disaster response teams to handle the influx of pilgrims visiting the temple during the festival. Devotees have been advised to follow the designated routes and cooperate with security personnel for a hassle-free darshan.

Security arrangements have also been intensified at major temples in Bhubaneswar, where special police deployment has been made to manage devotees participating in Snana Purnima rituals. Authorities remain on high alert to ensure peaceful celebrations across Odisha.

Snana Yatra is considered one of the most important festivals in the Jagannath tradition because it marks the final public appearance of the deities before the famous Rath Yatra. Following the ceremonial bath, the deities are believed to fall ill and enter a period known as 'Anasara,' during which they remain away from public view. They reappear only on the occasion of the annual Rath Yatra, one of India's largest religious festivals.

The administration has appealed to devotees to observe all safety guidelines and avoid overcrowding while participating in the celebrations. Officials have expressed confidence that the enhanced security measures and improved crowd management system will help ensure a safe and orderly festival experience.

As devotees continue to arrive in Puri, the combination of spiritual fervour, meticulous administrative preparations, and Sudarsan Pattnaik's striking sand art has set the stage for a memorable Snana Yatra. The festival not only reflects Odisha's rich cultural and religious heritage but also marks the beginning of the countdown to the world-renowned Rath Yatra.
