1. Educational Qualifications
The academic prerequisites depend heavily on the specific grade of the technician post:
Technician Grade-I Signal: Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree (B.Sc.) in Physics, Electronics, Computer Science, Information Technology, or Instrumentation.
Alternatively, a three-year Diploma or a full B.Tech/BE Degree in these engineering streams from a recognized university is accepted. Technician Grade-III: Candidates must have cleared Matriculation/SSLC along with an ITI certificate from NCVT/SCVT recognized institutes in relevant engineering trades (such as Fitter, Electrician, Welder, Machinist, etc.). Candidates who have successfully completed a Course Completed Act Apprenticeship (CCAA) in relevant trades are also fully eligible.
2. Age Limits (As of July 1, 2026)
Technician Grade-I Signal: 18 to 33 Years
Technician Grade-III: 18 to 30 Years
Age Relaxation Notice: Upper age limit relaxations apply for reserved categories as per Government of India norms.
SC/ST candidates receive a relaxation of 5 years, while OBC-Non Creamy Layer candidates receive a 3-year relaxation.
Application Fee & Selection Process
The application fee for the recruitment process is structured as follows:
General / OBC / EWS Candidates: ₹500/- (A partial refund of ₹400/- is processed after appearing in the first-stage Computer-Based Test).
SC / ST / Ex-Serviceman / PWD / Female / Minorities: ₹250/- (Fully refunded after appearing in the Computer-Based Test).
The Selection Process Pipeline
Candidates must successfully clear a rigorous three-stage selection matrix to secure their position in the Indian Railways:
Candidates must clear an online objective examination. The CBT will be conducted in multiple languages, including English, Hindi, and regional languages like Odia, Bengali, Telugu, and Marathi.
A shortlisting process based on merit scores from the CBT. Candidates must produce original academic certificates, ITI/Apprenticeship credentials, and caste certificates if applicable.
Shortlisted candidates undergo stringent medical examinations to meet the required medical standard (B-1 standard for Grade-I Signal) ensuring fitness for field operations.
Eligible candidates are advised to prepare their scanned academic certificates, valid Aadhaar card details for biometric verification, and passport-size photographs before the online registration portal goes live on June 30 at the official website rrbapply.gov.in.
