Republic Day 2026 LIVE: Jets Roar, Missiles Roll and Culture Shines at Kartavya Path

New Delhi | January 26, 2026:
India celebrated its 77th Republic Day on Sunday with a grand parade at Kartavya Path, showcasing the country’s military preparedness, indigenous defence capabilities, cultural diversity and constitutional values. President Droupadi Murmu presided over the celebrations, while Prime Minister Narendra Modi, senior ministers, armed forces chiefs and foreign dignitaries were present.

The parade was marked by historic first-time military displays, strong emphasis on self-reliance in defence, and vibrant cultural tableaux, making it one of the most significant Republic Day parades in recent years.

PM Pays Tribute at National War Memorial

The Republic Day celebrations began with Prime Minister Narendra Modi paying homage to fallen soldiers at the National War Memorial. He laid a wreath in remembrance of the armed forces personnel who laid down their lives in service of the nation.

The Prime Minister then proceeded to Kartavya Path, where President Murmu took the salute. A 21-gun salute, carried out using indigenous artillery guns, formally marked the start of the parade.

Military Parade Highlights Modern Warfare Readiness

The parade featured marching contingents from the Indian Army, Navy, Air Force, Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) and youth organisations. The contingents displayed precision, discipline and ceremonial excellence.

A major highlight was the Battle Array presentation, demonstrating India’s readiness for modern warfare through coordinated ground formations, mechanised units and tactical equipment.

Tri-Services Tableau Emphasises Joint Defence Capability

A special Tri-Services tableau, representing the Army, Navy and Air Force, underscored India’s focus on integrated military operations. The tableau highlighted joint planning, coordination across land, sea and air, and modern command structures, reflecting India’s evolving defence doctrine.

Indigenous Defence Systems on Display

In line with the government’s push for Aatmanirbhar Bharat, the parade showcased several indigenously developed defence platforms, including missile systems, armoured vehicles, artillery units and surveillance equipment.

The display highlighted India’s growing capability in domestic defence production and reduced dependence on imports.

IAF Flypast Draws Applause

The Indian Air Force flypast was among the most visually striking segments of the parade. Fighter jets including Rafale, Su-30 MKI, MiG-29 and Jaguar aircraft, along with transport platforms, flew in complex formations over Kartavya Path.

The flypast demonstrated the Air Force’s operational strength, coordination and technological edge.

Cultural Tableaux Reflect ‘Unity in Diversity’

Alongside the military display, tableaux from states, Union territories and central ministries showcased India’s cultural heritage, traditional art forms, development initiatives and social progress.

Themes ranged from folk traditions and festivals to digital governance, infrastructure growth, women empowerment and sustainability, offering a panoramic view of India’s diversity and development journey.

Women and Youth Participation

Women personnel from the armed forces and CAPFs participated prominently in marching contingents and tableaux, reflecting increasing gender inclusion in defence and security forces.

Youth contingents, including NCC participants, symbolised the country’s future leadership and commitment to constitutional values.

Foreign Dignitaries Attend Parade

Senior leaders from the European Union attended the Republic Day celebrations as chief guests, highlighting India’s expanding diplomatic engagement and strategic partnership with global blocs.

Tight Security Arrangements in Delhi

Delhi remained under multi-layered security cover with deployment of police, paramilitary forces and advanced surveillance systems to ensure the smooth and safe conduct of the national event.

Thousands of spectators witnessed the parade in person, while millions watched the live broadcast across the country.

Conclusion

The 77th Republic Day Parade 2026 reflected India’s military strength, cultural richness and constitutional resilience. With historic firsts, indigenous defence showcases and strong global presence, the celebrations underlined India’s journey as a confident, self-reliant and forward-looking nation.
